Ice Pic Journeys
Custom post-tour photo selection and sales platform
Ice Pic Journeys is an Iceland-based tour operator specializing in glacier hikes and ice cave expeditions. Each tour combines guided outdoor experiences with professional photography, where guides document the journey and deliver photo packages to clients as part of the service.
The photography component is operationally embedded into every tour. This creates a recurring post-tour workflow involving photo assignment, client selection, delivery, and additional sales â across a growing number of bookings.
The existing process was built around Pixieset and manual coordination. Pixieset functioned as a gallery tool but was not aligned with how Ice Pic Journeys structured its services. It did not support predefined photo packages, controlled selection limits, or integrated upselling.
Operationally, the workflow relied on manual steps across disconnected tools. Booking data was copied from Bokun into spreadsheets. Photos were assigned manually. Client communication around selection happened through email without system support. There was no structured way to track how many photos a client selected, whether they completed the process, or if additional purchases were made.
This created several points of friction:
- lack of visibility across ongoing client cases,
- risk of errors in photo assignment,
- increasing workload with business growth,
- and no structured way to turn photo delivery into a scalable revenue channel.
The limitation was not the gallery itself. It was the absence of a system that reflects how the service actually operates.
Software Things designed and built a custom application that restructures the entire post-tour photo workflow into a single, controlled system.
We architected a centralized platform that connects booking data, photo galleries, client access, and payment logic into one flow. Each client receives access to a personal gallery containing all photos from their tour, with a predefined selection limit based on their package. The system enforces selection rules, tracks progress, and enables additional purchases directly within the same interface.
The platform replaces manual coordination with a structured workflow â from photo upload to final delivery â while embedding upselling as a natural part of the selection process.

"Our return on investment has been substantial because of this". â Ryan Newburn, Co-Founder Ice Pic Journeys
